The Old Ghost definitely has a mind of its own and the 2006 vintage was no exception. Harvested during the latter part of October, the 96 year old vineyard chosen for the “Old Ghost” produced very tiny yields, less than one ton per acre. The small berries always “fight” the equipment and tend to produce a zinfandel with more structure and tannin. It is probably no coincidence that the vineyard block for the Old Ghost is generally one of the last of our 15 blocks to be harvested. This is a big wine with plenty of “stuffing” and structure. With gobs of intense berry flavors, botanicals and spice, the wine has brawn coupled with elegance. Not for the faint-hearted!

2006 Old Vine Zinfandel

Our 2006 vintage of Klinker Brick Old Vine Zinfandel is produced from an amalgam of 14 different vineyard blocks, ranging in age from 37 to 112 years old. This vintage saw lower yields than 2005 (averaging less than 3 tons per acre), producing a wine that is both complex and bold. Showing typical Klinker Brick cherry/berry/plum fruit components with aromatic spices on the nose, this wine is incredibly well balanced with a silky smooth texture and a long lingering finish. We believe it to be one of our best!

2005 Lodi Farrah Syrah (Order here)

The 2005 vintage in Lodi was extraordinary. The growing season was unusually long and cool resulting in a harvest that was much later than usual, producing beautiful, even ripe clusters. Yields were up a bit from 2004 but the quality of the fruit produced was superb. Our 2005 Farrah Syrah exhibits a nose of Cotton Candy, French vanilla and hints of orange peel with rich, bright multi-dimensional flavors of cassis, dried cherries and chocolate on the palate and the grip of tannin on the finish. This wine is fabulous and, unfortunately, limited!
